During the first week we were in Barcelona and my husband wasn’t feel well. We had plans for late night Barcelona-style tapas and drinks, and decided to ditch the drinks and stay in our cozy hotel and watch the MOST cheesy heist movie. We still look back on this memory fondly and slowing down, and just being together. It’s what it’s all about, ya?

I booked five weeks to travel through Venice, Rome, Florence, Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, and East Sussex (had to visit Virginia Woolf, Vita Sackville-West, Vanessa Bell, and Henry James). Midway through the five weeks I was exhausted. Europe had just opened after covid (not many tourists), there was a monster heatwave, and I was walking on average 10 miles a day (with terminal heart disease, checking in daily with cardiologist – he’s a gem). I rested in Barcelona spending days sitting at a beach cafe, drinking virgin mojitos, watching waves in the Mediterranean Sea. Doing nothing but staring into the blue was one of the highlights of trip. I think I saw the very best of Barcelona in those days.
