Love this! As a library worker I get to wave at so many cute babies everyday. I probably don’t need to remind this community, but please DON’T flirt with the library staff. It’s inappropriate and makes everyone uncomfortable. Shocking how many times it happens (usually with creepy older men).
Hahaha!
I was an English major at a college with some lovely, dreamy library spaces, but I worked at the engineering library – possibly the least romantic one. I worked the night shift (until it closed at 12am/2am depending on the day), so the stacks were quiet and I definitely got lost in my imagination while shelving. But the reality was filled with stressed engineering nerds (I say this with love as many were my friends and I eventually married one) clamoring to check out their textbooks or stressing over their upcoming exams. Ahhh memories
So true! A toddler gave me a high five today and his mom just laughed!
I’ve got a crush on my librarian.
Reminds me of my friend’s spicy library poem :)

Enjoy!
I married a librarian and, nearly ten years later, we still flirt in the stacks.
Victoria, I love this for so many reasons. My dream!
I had the most satisfying months-long flirtation with my library colleague in college, which was finally consummated with a few make-out sessions (NOT in the library), after which we retreated to the friendship that started it all. Somehow it was not at all awkward after and we remained good friends. The memory makes me smile… all that flirting in the non-sexiest of library sections: gov docs! (IYKYK!)
I adore this anecdote
I have a friend who has now been married for decades to the handsome stranger who approached her in the stacks!
Am I the only person that waves at dogs I see peering out of windows? I feel a wee bit crazy but seeing their goofy faces just makes me sooo happy!
you said it so perfectly, Lori- their goofy faces are the ultimate mood lifter!
I do it all the time. Cats, too. But then, I also greet wildlife and thank trees aloud when I use their roots or trunks to steady myself while hiking or just when they look especially beautiful.
This is more of a reply to Jules: I also talk to wildlife and the cats and the opossum that visit our backyard … (this reminds me of the recent video of a woman hiking in Santa Barbara County who encountered a mountain lion (!) She kept talking to the animal loudly and in a strong voice and when it finally sauntered up the hill, she exhaustedly said “thank you”!)
My good friend and I have been going to the book sale that our state public library friends group organizes every year. All proceeds go to buying more materials for our public libraries. For years my friend would get chatted up nearly every time we went to the sale! Nothing ever came of any of the book sale “encounters” but we used to laugh and tease her about it a lot. :-)
Haha, I remember making out in the library stacks with my high school boyfriend in the town library. It felt easy to go unnoticed. ;-) Hoping we really were unnoticed . . .
This is adorable. And absolutely true!
100% (always love Grace’s work, but her book and library content is especially on point)
Never not waiving at little kids. My oldest was like: Do you know them? I am like: all kids are my friends :)
YASSSSSSSSSS! I was in college when Taylor Swift’s music video for “The Story of Us” came out and it fueled many a fantasy meet-cute- in- the- stacks.
A handsome stranger in the library…only in books and movies.
Yes!!! +1
Go around storytime. Lots of hot dads.
So funny, my husband and I were setup by my library co-worker in college, 20 years later, hence, libraries have a special place in my heart!
When my college-age daughter, Abby, came home to visit, I asked her an important question…
