These are delightful. I talk to all my plants.
The first thing I did post-vacation was stop in to the library to pick up holds and check the shelves for my middle grade reader (Gordon Korman, Candace Fleming, and Jennifer Nielsen are his current faves).
Same! The library is the last stop out of town and the first stop back in…and then the grocery store ;)
Scented markers! Also, the variety of existential questions at bedtime from my 7 and 8 year olds including last nights: whether I thought there were other “Earths” in space, the origins of celebrating Halloween, and which cemetery Jesus’ body is in (we reviewed the story of Easter). A beautiful glimpse into the eclectic inner workings of a child’s musings!
Library hauls and the marker colors under my kids noses makes my heart smile.
Another “stuff I love”- we’ve been collecting Junior Ranger badges on our trip. Today was Mammoth Cave NP. I loved hearing my 5 year old daughter go on and on about caterpillars and cave crickets with the “Nature Ranger” as she calls them. I love hearing my kids talk lovingly about our Planet and all our friends in it, big and small.
Nothing beats an exciting library haul!! :-D When I was a kid I used to sit under a huge tree (now sadly gone) on my way home and start reading because I just couldn’t wait to start. The good old days.
This month’s little library theme became rock and roll bios after a call from our local library’s 2nd hand barn haul. Some nice gems. Hubs placed the air guitar he built from house project scraps along the post as a heads up.
My basil, lemon balm and rosemary plants have kept me busy creating, vinegars, salts , syrups, teas and pestos. Psst,,beer diluted in watering can is an awesome natural fertilizer.
We have an incredible amount of lemon balm in our yard. I’d love to hear your ideas for how to use it!
I oven dry (150F) a baking tray of lemon balm for 10 mins only. Just a quick, dry wilt. and use it for tea, lemonade, in ice cubes for cocktails, chopped in egg dishes and fresh in salads. Lemon balm pairs well with thyme in salt mixes as well as syrup in unflavored honey. And a fresh lemon balm-rosemary bouquet in bathroom pitchers is always lovely. It returns year after year in the garden. So in past years I’ve made lemon balm lavender neck pillows as gifts or sachets. Hope that inspires your own ideas, pls share yours!
I’ve trained a vine to go up and over my bathroom window, and I have a special Sherlock Holmes tote for my library hauls, so YES to this today!
Other stuff I just love:
– fireflies in the back yard
– roasted broccolini
– getting to know a new neighborhood dog
– when my kids text “I love you, Mama” (usually in response to me texting them first, but it counts!!)
Grace gets me! Just got back from the library with some great reads for my kids and I am particularly pleased with myself :)
I’m in the process of encouraging my climbing plant up to an arbor and it is just thrilling. Watching it’s little tendrils work so hard is inspiring.
I just got an exciting library haul!!! All the books I put on hold came in (all at the same time🤦♀️). Still happiness.
Mine do that a lot too. I’m waiting for 6 right now. Joyce Carol Oates new one, Fox. The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah, which I read about here on the crying book blog :) Ditto Theo of Golden by Allen Levi. Culpibility by Bruce Holsinger ( local bookstore owner’s rec ) So Far Gone by Jess Walter. So that is my holds list ! Currently reading These Days by Lucy Caldwell.
PNW, I hope you love The Great Alone! Let me know what you think of it.
Yes, to all of these! But my exciting book haul would be from the used bookstore and probably require a couple of tote bags.
